Workshop 4 : 

COLLABORATIVE MANAGEMENT OF MANGROVE PLANNING IN KLANG ISLANDS

The workshop was conducted in Aliya Hotel and was attended by 24 representatives from various government agencies, non-government organisations and local communities (as shown above in the list of stakeholders).

Workshop Objectives:

​

  1. To present the key findings from earlier workshops, focus groups and interviews and by other key experts to illustrate;

    • The importance of mangroves

    • The impact of mangrove loss, and

    • How mangroves are included in people’s visions for the future

  2. To identify the key problems that have been identified through our work/that of key others that need action

  3. To gather feedback on potential policy/management options by getting people to work through the options;

    • How would the different options impact upon the fisheries-mangrove-development nexus?

    • What would need to be in place to take these different approaches forward?

    • What would be the key barriers to taking the different approaches forward?

    • Who should be responsible for taking forward the possible options?

    • Which approach is most likely to succeed?

The workshop was designed to mainly focus on participants' vision of mangroves in the Klang Islands. Below are the list of participants representing stakeholders from governmental agencies, non-governmental agency and also the fishing community.
